Dr. Saied Asfa is the only surgeon in Harrisonburg performing a broad spectrum of plastic and reconstructive procedures, and has a special interest in aesthetic cosmetic surgery with emphasis on facial, nasal, breast and abdominal surgery. He is particularly interested in body contouring following massive weight loss surgery, and is one of a handful of plastic surgeons in Virginia performing hair transplant surgery.
Dr. Asfa completed his general surgery residency at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, MD, where he also served as Chief Surgical Resident. He then moved on to complete a two-year plastic and reconstructive surgery fellowship at Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC) in East Meadow, New York, where he served as Chief Plastic Surgery Fellow. NUMC is the top Level 1 Trauma Center on Long Island, and is affiliated with North Shore – LIJ Health System, the State University of New York (SUNY) at Stony Brook, and the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Dr. Asfa attained his M.D. degree from Isfahan University of Medical Sciences in Isfahan, Iran, and graduated in the Top 1% of the national college pool. After working for many years as a private general practitioner in Iran, as well as serving as a Lieutenant and Chief Medical Officer for the Iranian Army, Dr. Asfa moved to the United States to pursue a surgical career.
As part of his plastic and reconstructive surgery fellowship, Dr. Asfa worked at the Long Island Plastic Surgical Group, which is the largest and longest continuously-running practice of its kind in North America. Dr. Asfa trained in its multiple Centers for Excellence, including: non-invasive skin care and age management; cleft lip and palate repair; facial reanimation; microsurgery and peripheral nerve repair; comprehensive facial and body cosmetic surgery; burns and complex wound management; hand and upper extremity reconstruction; and comprehensive aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery. There are fewer than 100 such training programs in the entire U.S.
Dr. Asfa has given presentations in his areas of expertise to several professional and consumer groups, and has been featured by both local and national news organizations. He is also an active participant in the American Society of Plastic Surgeons’ annual federal advocacy event, where he meets on Capitol Hill with state senators and members of Congress regarding Medicare, Medical Liability Reform, Healthcare Truth & Transparency, Trauma Systems Planning & Development Funding, and Children’s Access to Reconstructive Evaluation & Surgery.
Dr. Asfa is licensed in Virginia and Maryland and holds staff privileges at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg. He also has privileges at Franklin Square Hospital Center, Good Samaritan Hospital, Greater Baltimore Medical Center, St. Joseph Medical Center, and Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore.
