CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting is a non-invasive procedure that gently and effectively removes fat from targeted areas of the face and body that have not responded to traditional diet and exercise. Patients can benefit from noticeable yet natural-looking results in their problem areas, providing an overall smoother facial and body contour without surgery, anesthesia or downtime. CoolSculpting is most effective in removing fat from the abdomen, love handles (flanks), upper and lower back, inner and outer thighs, upper arms, inner knee and under the chin (submental fat). Asfa Plastic Surgery was the first practice in the Harrisonburg region to bring this advanced, FDA-cleared technology to patients. Now, with over 1 million CoolSculpting procedures performed worldwide, it has become one of the most popular options for facial and body contouring.

How does CoolSculpting Work?

CoolSculpting technology safely delivers precisely controlled cooling that gently and effectively targets the fat cells underneath the skin, while leaving the skin itself unaffected. The treated fat cells are crystallized (frozen), then “die.” Over time, your body naturally processes and eliminates these dead fat cells, leaving a more sculpted, aesthetically pleasing contour to the treated areas, with long-lasting results. During the procedure (which takes less than an hour per treated area), most patients remain completely comfortable and can read, listen to music and simply relax. Most patients are able to return to work and resume other regular activities the very same day.  Treated areas may be tender for a few days.

Candidates For CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting is not a weight loss solution. It is most beneficial for patients who are relatively fit, but have areas of stubborn fat that do not respond to diet or exercise. It is important for patients to have realistic expectations about the results of this procedure, as CoolSculpting is not designed to remove large volumes of fat like conventional liposuction procedures. CoolSculpting is considered a less invasive alternative for patients with modest-sized fat bulges. Dr. Asfa will help determine whether or not you are a candidate for CoolSculpting after a physical examination and an evaluation of your medical history.
