Lesions/Cysts/Birthmarks/Moles

Whether you were born with an imperfection (such as a lesion, cyst, birthmark or mole) on your face or body – or these types of growths recently appeared or changed – they can cause you embarrassment or self-consciousness. In addition, any one of these skin growths could be signs of cancer or another medical problem.

Lesions, cysts and moles are skin abnormalities that can arise from various factors, including infections, allergies, or skin disorders, often manifesting as raised areas with distinct color variations from the surrounding skin. Common examples also include warts and skin tags.

A birthmark is a mark on the skin that can develop before or shortly after birth. It can be flat or raised and have regular or irregular borders or pigmentation. Most birthmarks are harmless and sometimes go away on their own. But sometimes a birthmark can be associated with a health problem. Pigmented birthmarks include cafe-au-lait spots, Mongolian spots, moles, or congenital nevi or hairy nevus. Vascular birthmarks include macular stains, hemangiomas and port wine stains.
