Dr. Saied Asfa, MD, FACS

Dr. Saied AsfaDr. Saied Asfa is Board Certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery, and is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a board member of the Virginia Society of Plastic Surgeons. He performs a broad spectrum of plastic and reconstructive procedures and has a special interest in aesthetic cosmetic surgery with emphasis on facial, nasal, breast and abdominal surgery. He is particularly interested in body contouring following massive weight loss surgery, and also performs highly specialized breast cancer reconstruction procedures.

Dr. Asfa completed his general surgery residency at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, MD, where he also served as Chief Surgical Resident. He then moved on to complete a two-year plastic and reconstructive surgery fellowship at Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC) in East Meadow, New York, where he served as Chief Plastic Surgery Fellow. Dr. Asfa attained his M.D. degree from Isfahan University of Medical Sciences in Isfahan, Iran, and graduated in the Top 1% of the national college pool. After working for many years as a private general practitioner in Iran, as well as serving as a Lieutenant and Chief Medical Officer for the Iranian Army, Dr. Asfa moved to the United States to pursue a surgical career.

As part of his plastic and reconstructive surgery fellowship, Dr. Asfa trained at the Long Island Plastic Surgical Group, which is the largest and longest continuously-running practice of its kind in North America. Dr. Asfa worked in its multiple Centers for Excellence, including: non-invasive skin care and age management; cleft lip and palate repair; facial reanimation; microsurgery and peripheral nerve repair; comprehensive facial and body cosmetic surgery; burns and complex wound management; hand and upper extremity reconstruction; and comprehensive aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery. There are fewer than 100 such training programs in the entire U.S.

Dr. Asfa has given presentations in his areas of expertise to several professional and consumer groups, and has been featured by both local and national news organizations. He has actively participated in the American Society of Plastic Surgeons’ annual federal advocacy event, where he has met with state senators and members of Congress on Capitol Hill regarding Medicare, Medical Liability Reform, Healthcare Truth & Transparency, Trauma Systems Planning & Development Funding, and Children’s Access to Reconstructive Evaluation & Surgery.

Dr. Asfa is licensed in Virginia and Maryland and holds staff privileges at Sentara Rockingham Memorial Hospital (RMH) in Harrisonburg. He is an advisor to the Healogics Wound Care Center at RMH, as well as a founding member of the Valley Outpatient Surgery Center in Harrisonburg. He is also a regular presentor on WHSV TV3’s Medical Monday segments.
